General Information:
The San Juan County Surveyor is an elected official who's office and duties
are mandated by the State Legislature and governed by State Law.
(Utah Code
17-23) As a requirement, the County Surveyor must be a Professional
Land Surveyor licensed by the State of Utah Department of Commerce, Division of
Occupational and Professional Licensing. The main functions of the County
Surveyor are to advise the County Executive and County Legislative Body
regarding all surveying work, perform or arrange for the performance of all
surveying work for the County and to maintain a repository at County Government
offices at the County Seat a fair and accurate record of all surveys made, all
surveys received and all section corner files and records made or received. In
addition the County Surveyor is responsible for the preservation of existing
monumentation (Section Corners) of the Public Land Survey System.

Staff can assist the general public with a variety of land surveying related
issues, including but not limited to the following:

- PLSS Survey Plats and Survey Notes

Fees:
Recording - $20.00/Sheet
Copying - (B & W) $0.75/sq. ft., (Color) $1.50/sq. ft.
Data Discs containing the PLSS survey notes for San Juan County from 1878 -
1992 are available for $25.00 through the County Survey Office.
The discs contain cadastral survey field notes for T27S, R18E through T44S,
R26E, Homestead Entry Surveys, Mineral Surveys, U.S. Location Monuments and User
Information for navigation through the notes.
PLSS Survey Notes and Plats from 1993 to present are available through the BLM
public room in Salt Lake City and can also be accessed through the following
link: NOTE: (The BLM is presently in the process of scanning all PLSS
Survey Notes and Plats state-wide for availability on the their website.
