MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS' MEETING HELD IN REGULAR SESSION ON MONDAY THE llth DAY OF AUGUST, 1969

Meeting opened at 10:30 O'Clock A. M. with Commissioner Hazleton in the Chair.

MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING WERE READ AND APPROVED. Commissioner Young moved to approve the minutes as read; Commissioner Black seconded the motion and it carried unanimously.

LA SAL JCT. AIRPORT & LOUNGE REQUESTS

Victor Thill met with the Commission and requested some blading work be done at the La Sal Airport. He also mentioned some building up and leveling be done to assist with drainage at the strip. The Commissioners assured Mr. Thill that some work would be done on the Airport as soon as some equipment is freed from the Mountain Road job.

Mr. Thill also requested that his Lounge be allowed to remain open on Saturday nights until 1:00 A. M. The Commissioners advised Mr. Thill to study the County Ordinance and make his own decision, as his Beer License just requires that he abide by the County Ordinance relating to the sale of beer.

SHERIFF DISCUSSES NEW CAR

Sheriff Musselman met with the Commission to discuss the wisest course to follow in advertising for bids for new cars for the Sheriff's Departments. The Commissioners advised Sheriff Musselman to arrange to purchase two or more cars at a time and perhaps deal throu gh the State and take advantage of the price they are able to negotiate for. However, final decision on this matter will be made at a later date.

K S L TV OFFICIALS TO MEET IN MONTICELLO

Commissioner Hazleton reported on the meeting scheduled for Friday, August 15th at 2:00 P. M. when

officials of K S L will interview Monticello City officials, County Commissioners and interested citizens

in an effort to assist with local problems and progress. Mr. Wes Bowen will be principal official at

this meeting representing K.S.L.

Commissioner Hazleton also reported on the Health Department meeting held the previous Friday with Health workers and U.D.I.A. people.. The main objective being to determine the cost to present the same health program in Reservation areas as exists in Monticello and Blanding cities. An approximate figure of $114,000.00 was discussed.

Colored negatives of Lake Powell area were received from Purcell Publishing Company and turned to the County Tourist & Publicity Council.

Commissioner Hazleton reported on the Hospital Board meeting held the previous week.

Arlow Freestone and Duane Carlson are scheduled to meet with the Commissioners the following Monday, Aug.

MILL LEVY APPROVED FOR 1969

Commissioner Black moved that the County mill levy for 1969 (for general county purposes) be set at 14.84 + County Library @ .70 + Tort Liability @ .46 * 16 mills.

Commissioner Black also moved to approve all other levies submitted. Commissioner Young seconded the motion and it carried unanimously.

UNIFORM SCHOOL FUND LEVY

Notice was received from the State Tax Commission that the Uniform School Fund Levy shall be 7.2 mills

on each dollar of valuation in the State of Utah.

The Commission has also determined that no property tax shall be levied for General State purposes for

the year 1969.

The State Tax Commission of Utah has completed its examination of the assessed valuations for the year

1969, as reported by the various Auditors of Utah, and has concluded to make no blanket akjustments in

the valuation of any class of property in San Juan County for the current year 1969.

Commissioner Black is scheduled to meet with the State Highway Department on Wednesday, August 13th to discuss the E.D.A. Road project Red House to Halls Crossing.

2 P. M. MEETING ON RODENT CONTROL

Dan Hinkley from the State Division of Wild Life Services, met with the Commission and farmers from various areas of the County to discuss methods of controlling and eradicating prairie dogs within the

County. Mr. Hinckley outlined the recommended proceedure, and another meeting will be called to organize the farmers and determine the infested areas.

3 P. M. WEED CONTROL MEETING

Mr. Bill Cave of the State Highway Department, noxious weed control, met with the Commissisoners and farmers to discuss the most effective means of controlling various noxious weeds.

Mr. Cave emphasized the importance of spraying at the correct time, also, that Tordon or Benzac are most effective chemicals.

Mr. Cave stated that he would cooperate with farmers if they will notify him when weeds are ready for spraying.

Those citizens in attendance were: Cloyd Johnson, Silas Barton, Alfred Frost, Clem Washburn, Alma Jones, Herm Butts, Wyman Redd, Leonard Bartell, De Reece Nielson, Frank Fullmer, and Blaine Jones from the Exten-sion Service office.

PUBLIC DEFENDERS CLAIM APPROVED

Commissioner Black moved to approve the claim submitted by Attorney L. Robert Anderson for defending

the indigent Defendant Allen LeRoy Flesner; the claim being in the amount of $49.50.

Commissioner Young seconded the motion and it carried unanimously.

Athena Area # 2: The period from 6 P. M. on August 21, 1969 to 6 A. M. August 22, 1969 is hereby declared a firing period.
